The 2009 Programs and Tournaments

The Ojibway Club is committed to providing tennis programs of the highest quality.  Back for his third year, Tennis Director Mark Renneson has put together a a full compliment of programs that cater to players of all levels.  This year’s schedule includes past favourites as well as exciting new offerings that we are sure will serve the needs of our members.  For those who want one-on-one time, private and semi-private lessons will again be offered by our expert coaching staff which also includes Stan Nevolovich.

2009 ADULT TENNIS PROGRAMS

LEARN


TOP DOG TENNIS  

Mon. 930-11 , Wed. 930-11 


TOP DOG TENNIS is for the Ojibway Club’s stronger players.  Each session will include technical development and will feature drills and competitive situations that will challenge even the most skilled participants.  Training topics will change weekly, keeping practice sessions original, fun and intense! ($25)


TENNIS 101 

Thurs. 1130-1


A no-pressure class that is designed for beginning players.  TENNIS 101 will help participants develop the skills needed to play tennis with a partner.  TENNIS 101 will cover fundamental techniques, rules of the game, court etiquette and everything else you need to get started.  Taught in a way that is fun and friendly, you’ll be playing full court tennis in no time!  ($25)


BUILDING ON BASICS   

Wed. 12-130 , Fri. 1130-1


An intermediate class focused on helping people who can already play tennis to play it better.  BUILDING ON BASICS will help students to improve rallying skills, net play and serving and returning.  Participants will also introduce singles and doubles strategy so that you can make your partner do a little more running! ($25)


CREATE YOUR OWN CLINIC ($25/person/hour) min. 3


Already have a group you like to play with?  You can CREATE YOUR OWN CLINIC!  Ojibway Club Pros are ready, willing and able to give the group exactly what you want.  Times and duration are flexible and the topics can be chosen by the group or by one of our expert coaches.  Talk to Mark or Stan to set up a clinic just for you! 


BOOT CAMP (June 24-26) 

9am-1pm


Camp is not just for kids!  The Ojibway Club Tennis Staff offers 3 day mini-camps designed to kick off your outdoor tennis season!  BOOT CAMP is a great way to start the summer and to develop lasting improvements in your game.  Fun, focussed, and professionally run, BOOT CAMP topics will include singles and doubles strategy, useful techniques for different situations, and how to excel during match play.  This camp is ideal for current players who want to make their existing game even better.  ($240 - includes daily snacks and refreshments) 


PLAY


ATP (Adult Training Program)

Tues. 1130-1 , Thurs. 230-4 , Fri. 230-4


A brand new program for 2009! ATP is a training session -- not clinic -- that helps to develop the skills needed for intermediate and advanced players to excel.  ATP is fast-paced and varied, giving you a great workout while improving your game.  ATP will be a hit in 2009!  ($25)


CARDIO TENNIS 

Mon. 11-12 , Wed. 11-12 , Sat. 10-11 , Sun. 10-11


Back by popular demand, CARDIO TENNIS is for players who are looking for a great workout.  This class is for all levels of play since the drills and games will focus on fun and exercise, not how many times you can keep the ball in the court.  Set to awesome music, CARDIO TENNIS is sure to get your heart pumping!  ($22)






TFI (Tamara Finch Invitational) 

Alternate Sundays 4-6


Inspired by an Ojibway Club tennis member, TFI is a social mixed doubles event held on alternate Sunday afternoons (beginning July 5) throughout the summer.  Play is organized by the tennis staff and participants get a chance to mix and mingle with occasional breaks for ‘hydration’ (supplied by players to suit their preferences).  Coaches are on site to give tips, provide new balls and to act as umpire when needed.  TFI is a great way to end your week! ($10)


LADIES ROUND ROBIN

Tues. / Thurs. / Fri. 930-1130


An Ojibway Club favourite is back!  These organized round robins are a great chance to meet new players and to play with old friends. Mixed levels ensures everyone can play. ($6/season)

OPEN tournaments are open to any member/staff of the Ojibway Club and are a new initiative in 2009 to designed to improve the quality of competition.  All other tournaments require participants to be TENNIS SECTION MEMBERS.

2009 JUNIOR TENNIS PROGRAMS


LEARN



FUNdamentals 

Sat. 11-12 (ages 8-10) , Sat. 12-1 (ages 11-13)


The FUNdamentals program is ideal for beginning and novice junior players.  Emphasis is on developing basic skills and helping students to enjoy tennis though successful play.  Using the internationally recognized progressive tennis system, FUNdamentals is a great entry point into tennis.  ($20)


OJIBWAY ACADEMY 

Mon. 415-530 , Wed. 415-530 , Sun. 615-730


For skilled junior players who want to improve their play over the summer.  The OJIBWAY ACADEMY is a new program that focusses on developing the techniques, tactics and psychology required for excelling in competition.   ($25)


       

PLAY



JR DROP IN ($20) ages 6+

Tues. 630-8* JULY 14 - AUGUST 18


Need something for the kids during Tuesday Night Dinners?  Send them to JR DROP IN!  Back by popular demand, this fun and game-filled program is for junior players of all levels.  Coaches will ensure that the kids are active, safe and entertained while parents enjoy a meal at the club.  A great chance to play tennis with friends while being supervised!

2009 Tennis Staff



Mark Renneson , Tennis Director

Mark will be heading the tennis department for his third season in 2009.  As a game-based coach, Mark's focus in on teaching in a way that puts the needs of students first while respecting the fact that tennis is a game to be played -- not just a set of techniques to be modeled.   

Mark is based in Vancouver, has Tennis Canada Coach 2 and Club Pro 2 certification and is involved in delivering the instructor certification course in British Columbia.  In 2009 Mark earned a Master's Degree in Philosophy of Education from the University of Toronto where for five years he was the captain of the Men's Varsity Tennis Team.  





Stan Nevolovich , Club Professional

Stan is back in 2009 for his second season at the Ojibway Club having been a great asset in 2008.  Originally from South Africa, Stan played Division 1 college tennis in both Louisiana and Montana and has since transfered his considerable playing success into his coaching.  

Stan's friendly, professional and demanding coaching attitude is immediately apparent and he divides his time between coaching private lessons and leading the tennis portion of the Ojibway Club's day camp.  Stan has Tennis Canada Coach 1 certification and finished his BA at York University.
