King of The Court -- Roy Schatz





This week, following a very successful annual event with Sans Souci Tennis Club, a special award was presented to one of the most recognizable faces (and voices) of the Ojibway. Roy Schatz has served for over twenty years as a leader of men's morning tennis and as a valuable organizer of club events. On Thursday, Roy was presented with the KING OF THE COURT award in recognition of his effort. Congratulations Roy and thank you for all your work!

Mid-Summer Update

Congratulations to the following people for excellent performances in club tournaments so far this summer:

Emily Kuchman and Jessie Durand - Women's Doubles Champions


Still to come this summer are the Women's Singles tournament (August 2-6), the Open Singles(August 7-8), and the Mixed Doubles (August 14-15) and the Junior Doubles (August 16).

THE 2010 SEASON IS... ALMOST... HERE!

I'm sure I don't need to tell you that the 2010 season at the Ojibway Club is just around the corner. The Tennis Department is very excited about the programs, clinics and tournaments that will be on offer this season.

The Ojibway Club is committed to providing tennis programs of the highest quality. Tennis Director Mark Renneson has put together a a full compliment of programs that cater to players of all levels.  For those who enjoy one-on-one time, private and semi-private lessons will again be offered by our expert coaching staff which also includes Stan Nevolovich.

TRAINING



TOP DOG TENNIS

Mon. / Wed. 930-11


A high-intermediate clinic designed for players who are eager to improve their game.  TOP DOG TENNIS will help students to develop their baseline skills, net play, serving and returning as well as movement and tactics.  Singles and doubles strategy will also be incorporated and will help participants to become complete players. ($25)


CARDIO TENNIS 

Mon. / Wed. 11-12, Fri. 1-2


Plain and simple, CARDIO TENNIS is for players who are looking for a great workout.  This class is for all levels of play since the drills and games will focus on fun and exercise, not how many times you can keep the ball in the court.  Set to awesome music, CARDIO TENNIS is guaranteed to get your heart pumping!  ($22)




ATP (Adult Training Program)

Tues. / Thurs. / Fri. 1130-1


Back by popular demand, ATP is a fast-paced training session that gives players the chance to work on all areas of their game.  Organized around different themes, ATP helps players to increase their competency in all areas by providing deliberate practice on the most important skills. ($25)


ADVANCED TENNIS TRAINING

Mon. / Wed. 12-130


New in 2010, ADVANCED TENNIS TRAINING is for the Ojibway Club’s Premiere players who desire to push themselves and their game.  Each session will include advanced technical and tactical training and will feature drills and competitive situations that challenge even the most skilled participants.  Topics will change weekly, keeping training sessions original, fun and intense!  Minimum 3.5 level required. ($25)



PLAYING




LADIES ROUND ROBIN

Tues. / Thurs. / Fri. 930-1130


An Ojibway Club favourite is back!  These organized round robins are a great chance to meet new players and to play with old friends. Mixed levels ensures everyone can play. ($6/season)


MENS TENNIS

Every morning 7-9


For those who like to start their day with social tennis, this Ojibway Club staple is back.  Organized by the players and always entertaining, MENS TENNIS is a welcoming and fun way to kick off your day.

*OPEN tournaments are open to any member or staff of the Ojibway Club.  All other tournaments require participants to be TENNIS SECTION MEMBERS.

OJIBWAY ACADEMY

For junior players who want to improve their play over the summer.  The OJIBWAY ACADEMY focusses on developing the important techniques, tactics and psychology required for excelling in tennis.  Level 1 is for players who have little or no experience in tournament play while Level 2 is for players who have competed on a more regular basis.  ($25)



JUNIOR HOT SPOT 

Sun. 6-730


New for 2010 and in conjunction with the Ojibway Academy, JUNIOR HOT SPOT offers organized match play and training.  Players will have the opportunity to compete with one another and to implement the themes being explored in the Academy.  JUNIOR HOT SPOT is an excellent opportunity for kids to push themselves, test their mastery of developing skills and to learn to compete.   ($25)   


       


PLAYING



JR DROP IN ($20) ages 6+

Need something for the kids during Tuesday Night Dinners?  Send them to JR DROP IN!  Back by popular demand, this fun and game-filled program is for junior players of all levels.  Coaches will ensure that the kids are active, safe and entertained while parents enjoy a meal at the club.  A great chance to play tennis with friends while being supervised!

Summer Season Heating Up!

The tennis courts are humming these days with clinics, camps, tournaments and ladder matches.  With sunny days greatly outnumbering the rain the courts are seeing a lot of action.  Here are a few updates:

- Roger Martin and Pamela Scoon repeated their Mixed Doubles tournament win from 2008 by defeating Sarah White and Dave Finch 7-6, 7-6.

- Sarah White and Mike Douglas won the Pewter Cup with a convincing win over Karilla Abromeit and Nathan McLamb.

- Women's doubles is set to go this Saturday (June 18 at 9am)

- Tuesday night junior drop in has seen record numbers of kids during the Tuesday dinners.

- Ladies Round Robin has its first capacity day of the season with 40 people by 945am.

- Our newest clinic ATP (adult training program) has been wildly popular and has required extra spaces to be made available.

Ladies Round Robin Begins June 30!




The first of this year's Ladies Round Robin begins on Tuesday June 30 and will, as always, run on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings from 930-1130.

Also, remember that Wednesday mornings is the mixed round robin and is open to women and men anytime after 7am and before 9am.
